All I can say is that it works to soft reset to get the berry you want.Hard resetting is physically pressing the off button, than pressing the on button to reset. Soft resetting is much faster for shiny hunting. Since this is only a gen 3 guide, i will tell you how to soft reset for GameBoy. Just press B+A+SELECT+START in no specific order.
