Insert a screwdriver / punch / Glock tool into the bottom of the base plate and disengage the insert. With the tool still inserted, press down. The base plate will slide forward and disengage from the magazine. Remove the tool and slowly slide the base plate off of the magazine, taking care to maintain control of the insert and spring.

The numbers on the barrel and slide are useless when identifying a GLOCK by serial number. For example, If you breake the receiver, let's say it cracked.Only time I tried the tip the plate method it cracked, I was not impressed. So I'll stick w/tab removal.
