John deere gator clutch problems

Well I have had a few issues with my 835M. 1. Seal on front axle leaking. 2. Rear box won't lift - powered box. 3. Wouldn't start. First I want to say this machine has been great, glad I bought it. Sloan Equipment has been great, they will come pick up the vehicle (60 miles away) and take care of problems.

The rollers are bad New clutch for this model is a thousand dollars. A roller kit is about 300 dollars. Complete new clutches for other models are about 150 dollars.Clutch Problems. When in gear and from a stop - it takes some rpm to get it to engage and when it does its a fairly decent jerk. Not very predictable. That obviously led me to belive clutch was sticking so I contacted the Doc and am planning to send him the clutch for rework. Remove the belt cover from the bottom of the Gator. Clean any debris or dirt in the primary clutch. Use spray lubricant on the pinpoints on the primary clutch. Watch the clutch in action to see if it fully withdraws at idle and slides forward when you open the throttle. Locate the idle adjustment screw on the primary clutch.

Operating the Gator for extended periods in high gear or not using low when climbing hills can lead to belt failure. Additionally a sticking clutch can cause premature wear on the belt, overtime this certainly could cause belt failure.
